SZELL 的 SCHUMANN SYMPHONY NO. 2 除了本唱片外，還有一個最晩年 1969年的實況錄音，受矚目的是罕見與柏林愛樂合作。樂評一片叫好，其中評論提及説這場演奏 SZELL 平反了" SCHUMANN SYMPHONY NO. 2 的聲名 "，這句話蠻有意思。
打從 SCHUMANN 的時代至 20世紀初，他的交響曲總是毀譽參半，尤其是 NO. 2 更是臭名在外。原因是有一個有如同失控悪魔難以演奏的笫二樂章 詼諧曲。MAHLER ( 馬勒 )曽經為了易於管控演奏 (尤其是銅管 )特別為 SCHUMANN 交響曲攺編成另一版本， Riccardo Chailly 就錄音過 ( Schumann: The Complete Symphonies Mahler Edition ，Decca 478 0037 [2CDs] )。只是到了如今管紘樂團進步神速，演奏早就不是問題，現在大概不再有人或樂團自曝其短宣稱 SCHUMANN SYMPHONY 無法演奏了。
SCHUMANN SYMPHONY NO. 2 是他規模最龐大的作品，充滿著苦惱和闘爭表現出個人強烈的浪漫主義。但，也是４首 SYMPHONY 中最少演奏，因為演奏好的確不容易。 SZELL 在此讀譜深入，強力統率 Cleveland Orchestra 從笫一樂章宏偉和馴服 "歹剃頭" 的笫二樂章，進入笫三樂章 虔敬聖潔 至最後從容結尾，真是關關難過關關過。這是 SZELL 的代表作，不容懐疑。

I heard an interview of Szell telling that Schumann's symphonies were underrated (so many critics of their orchestration) , he really supported well these masterpieces...
