這些日子正在比較  亨德密特 : 四種氣質（鋼琴和弦樂團版）Hindemith : The Four Temperaments (Theme With Four Variations For Piano And Strings) 各個版本。發現了由 Naxos 出版一套2cd 是由 Idil Biret ( Piano)，Toshiyuki Shimada 指揮 Yale Symphony Orchestra 聲稱為 亨德密特 鋼協全集。亨德密特 是作了5首鋼協，但只一首命名以鋼協，其它以其它名義取名。最有名是四種氣質（鋼琴和弦樂團版），最被嫌棄是 for Piano Left Hand Op. 29 (1923)  也同是為一次大戰傷殘右手的Paul Wittgenstein 而作，當年一糸列為 Wittgenstein 而作有 Britten , Kornold , Prokofiev , and Richard Strauss....等人卻只有 Ravel 的左手鋼協成名，這些左手鋼協後來成了右手有殘疾的鋼琴家的救贖。亨德密特 : 左手鋼協 卻遲了80多年，於 2004年才由 Leon Fleisher 作世界首演。Leon Fleisher 是當年 Columbia 的台柱，和 Szell 錄製的一系列鋼協著名。 Fleisher 風格一向以敏銳流暢備受推祟，事實上也最符合亨德密特那種流動無礙的樂風 ，由波蘭小提琴家 Szymon Goldberg 伴奏 四種氣質（鋼琴和弦樂團版）( Philips A 00365 L，1956年 LP )，更是個人的首選。

不同於 巴爾托克 Bartók 那強橫跋扈的躍動，Paul Hindemith 的音樂清新多了。簡潔又有流動性是非浪漫主義的形式，客觀的以線條構成對位手法其實和巴洛克音樂有異曲同功之處，算是巴洛克音樂的現代版。Hindemith 於1946 年取得美國公民權，也於 1940年開始受聘為耶魯大學教授，總共任教長達十三年之久可說是淵源深厚。上述 Idil Biret 在 Naxos 出版亨德密特 鋼協全集 ，樂團是用 耶魯大學 的 Yale Symphony Orchestra 是理所當然。Hindemith 在耶魯的期間費心專研早期的音樂作品，特別是巴洛克時期的音樂作品，更成立耶魯大學 音樂學院的巴洛克音樂同好會，留下二片錄音，分別為 ( Overtone Records ‎– OVER. 4 , 5 ，1953年 2LP )，個人在廉價促銷堆中尋獲這珍品如獲至寶是屬不易。但，當年  Hindemith 的音樂風行一時，如今卻早已「退時」也是不爭事實。

就以這首 四種氣質（鋼琴和弦樂團版）錄音而論，舊版本皆為名家之作。包括有 Felix Slatkin  指揮 ，Victor Aller (Piano ) ( Capitol P-8230，1960年 LP )，Henry Swoboda   指揮 ，Franz Holletschek (Piano ) ( Westminster ‎– WL 5074，1951年 LP ) ....。但仍以波蘭小提琴家 Szymon Goldberg 伴奏 的 Leon Fleisher ( Philips A 00365 L，1956年 LP )版本最傑出。年輕 Fleisher 的 敏銳流暢又不失為冷酷是符合 Hindemith 現代的都會氣息，而其對其中爵士原素的詮釋最是自然。這點連由 Hindemith 自已伴奏的 哈絲姬 Clara Haskil 於1957年Montreux 實況  (Music and Arts P0032 2011年 cd  或 Orfeo B0000059AU 1994年 cd )都無法勝出。 Haskil 在浪漫主義是強項，但爵士原素就是無法如同 Fleisher 的得心應手。這唱片也是由 Szymon Goldberg 率領他手創的子弟兵  Netherlands Chamber Orchestra 伴奏，也一如 Goldberg 小提琴獨奏特質溫暖又充滿人性。錄音也是這幾片的最好，為當然首選

Leon Fleisher (born July 23, 1928) is an American pianist and conductor. 

Paul Godwin (1902–1982) was a violinist and the leader of a popular German dance orchestra in the 1920s and 30s. ,  his real name was Pinchas Goldfein.
