The Firebird 首演於 25 June 1910，樂曲配器巧奪天工是Stravinsky的成名作。 後來於 1911年編了以大型管紘的 組曲 ，1919年又修改組曲以更小的管紘編制，於1945再修改一次以最小管紘編制，三次組曲以 1919年最多被採用。其實全曲和組曲無關優劣，只是指揮需求取材而已。
The Firebird 的錄音版本很多，首先要提及是 Dorati 的三次stereo 錄音尤其是 TAS天碟 Mereury SR - 90226 (樂團 : LSO )最富盛名， Boulez / New York Philharmonic ( Columbia m 33508 )極盡生動鲜明是 Boulez 多次錄音中最好 ( 本片亦為TAS天碟 )，而本唱片 Sir Colin Davis 更以縝密細膩節奏精確見長。以上提及三張 LP 都是不可多得的示範級錄音。
